Gender mainstreaming is the process of bringing a gender perspective into the mainstream activities of government at all levels, including policies, programmes and projects.

Government's solution to gender equity in SET
 
In response to the challenges represented by the under-representation of women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET), the Department of Science and Technology established the Science, Gender and Disability Unit, which identified gender mainstreaming as a catalyst for change.
